Prayer and Liturgy

Overview of prayer and liturgy provision

Monday- Whole School Celebration of the Word (Gospel Focus)

Tuesday- Key Stage Celebration of the Word

Wednesday- Whole School Hymn Practice

Thursday- Class Celebration of the Word (Following Mark 10 Mission)

Friday- Whole School Celebration of the words (Catholic Social Teaching focus)

The above shows the daily/weekly outline for when prayer and liturgy takes place at Saint Patrick’s. This is on display in every classroom and the hall. Monday’s celebration of the Word follows the Gospel from the previous Sunday, or focuses on a Feast Day. Mark 10 Mission is watched and discussed in class and follows the plan for the liturgical year. Mass is celebrated, for Key Stage 2 classes, at Saint Patrick’s Church in Autumn, Spring and Summer. This is led by Father Michael, who also visits the Key Stage 1 and Reception classes in these terms. Reconciliation is offered with Father Michael at church (Saint Patrick’s Corsham and Saint Mary’s Chippenham) and a Reconciliation Service and Sorry Service take place in school in Advent and Lent. The Chaplaincy Team, supported by Teachers, lead the school in Rosary (October and May) and Stations of the Cross (Lent), as well as leading various Celebration of the Word worships throughout the year. Full details can be found in our Annual Plan for Provision for Prayer and Liturgy overview. Jennie Courtney and Charlotte Minty are responsible for this provision.

Resourcing

Prayer and liturgy are central to the school’s understanding of itself as a Catholic school, and this is reflected in the annual budget allocation and available resources, including staff time, chaplaincy provision, and dedicated spaces for prayer and liturgy. The Catholic character of the school is reflected in religious artefacts and images on display throughout the building. Dedicated spaces for prayer and liturgy will be furnished and maintained as such and updated to reflect the Church’s liturgical season. Staff training and formation costs will be funded separately to ensure that all staff are able to fulfil their responsibility to contribute to the prayer and liturgical life of the school.
