Subject Ambassadors
At St Patrick's we are passionate about all of our pupils playing their part in ensuring we provide the best we can in every area! Therefore, every child from Years 1-6 will become a Subject Ambassador for a chosen subject.
See below for a summary of actions from our first meeting of 2024:
In our PSHE/ RE Ambassadors meeting we talked about how our Gospel Values and British Values interlink. We then decided as a group that we would focus on the British Value 'Rule of Law' and the Gospel Value of 'Honesty' this year. In April we will be visited by a trainee lawyer who will talk to us about the law. Then at the end of the year we will have a whole school debate based on a law.
Miss Wilkinson had read research that many children in the U.K were reporting not enjoying writing for fun at home.We found this news worrying so we discussed all the things we love to write in our spare time. The ideas were fantastic – from joke books to letters and even autobiographies and recipes.
We then designed posters to encourage all the classes to write creatively or for information at home.We also urged teachers to set more home learning writing activities and we advertised the BBC 500 word story competition taking place right now!
We discussed how we could raise the profile of Maths across the school, creating more opportunities for maths play and enjoyment outside of lessons. We have decided to create a 'Maths Opal Bag'. In this meeting we tried out a range of games and chose those we thought would be best for this. Watch out for some new and exciting maths games to play at breaktimes!
We have really been enjoying the links to art and music in our weekly Celebrations of the Word. We would now love to see more music links in Geography. It would be great to hear more music from the cultures we are studying. Watch this space to see how we progress with this over the year!
In this meeting we decided to focus on Sport. We would love to see some more structured sport in our lunchtimes. We have discussed whether it would be possible to hold some House Team tournaments in our lunchtimes. This will be discussed further, and if it is possible we will look to start these in the Spring Term.
Inspired by the Music and Art appreciation in our weekly Celebration of the Word, we set ourselves the challenge of creating a performance that combined Music and Art which we will show to the school at the end of the year.
Along the way we are hoping to encourage other children to create similar combined arts pieces , possibly as part of their Music lessons.
